- Start shopping to replace your SGLI (Life insurance)
This is crucial at this time, prior to any VA appointments, and before getting your rating. - Complete Financial Needs Analysis(FNA)
- Shop for Skillbridge company on DOD approved website. https://skillbridge.osd.mil/locations.htm
- Route your Retirement intentions through your COC.
- Schedule GPS/TAPS class.(if you haven't already)
12 months
out from Retirement or Separation from the Armed Forces
- Obtain a new Life Insurance policy for yourself and family. Ask about what an IUL is.
- Choose Skillbridge company
- Route Skillbridge request
- Route 1336-3
- Provide Personal Statement
- Provide Skillbridge approval from company
- Submit Memorandum of Understanding from Company
- Submit Internship agreement/offer
- Follow up with your Retirement request on HRC or NSIPS(Navy) https://www.nsips.navy.mil/
- Verify your request to transfer to Fleet/Army Reserves is reflected in your record if applicable.
- Request a copy of your Medical Documentation, your AHLTA Record/Notes It is where all of your Dr visits kept their notes.
6 months
out from Retirement or Separation from the Armed Forces
- Start Skillbridge if applicable.
- If you chose Wealth Wave as your skillbridge, obtain your license.
- During the next 120/180 days, you will need to use your remaining terminal leave, unless you plan to sell it back.
- Start your VA process. Get on the phone with a resource that will help provide you guidance through the process.
- Book all of your VA appts
- Complete all required Retirement Paperwork.
